The 70 kDa protein generated by witangulatina A, was unmistakably identified as protein 70 (HSP70) in treatment of shock since the two proteins migrated to the same position in two dimensional polyacrylamide gels, which can be recognized by a monoclonal antibody to human HSP70 and demonstrated by identical peptide maps. The induction of protein synthesis was regulated by witangulatina The step in transcription since it was abandoned, in cells pretreated with actinomycin D. But the initiation of this process did not require protein synthesis because it was not affected by cycloheximide.
